Carthage the highlight. La Marsa and other suburbs were worth a visit. Bizerte a big disappointment.
Tunis is not a very attractive city. Apart from the main street there is dirt and squalor everywhere. The trams are often packed with no ventilation, are dirty and in many cases there are no tram stop names indicated. There is only one small park anywhere near the city centre.
The taxi from the airport is all hassle as the drivers try to rip off passengers. The light rail lines to Carthage and to La Marsa weren't operational.
There are very few decent restaurants in the city centre. Compared to other African countries I have visited (Morocco and Egypt) the locals aren't particularly friendly (with notable exceptions).
As someone who has visited more than 45 countries I wouldn't recommend Tunisia under any circumstances.

Interesting city with a lot of history and traditional architecture to explore. People are friendly. Exploring the Medina is most and do not forget to bargain on whatever transaction. Recommend using Bolt for whatever transfer in Tunisia.

You must head to the Medina.
You must head to the Medina. It is a maze of narrow streets and packed with shoppers. The stroll in there alone is an experience.
Expect to be pestered a little but just walk on if you don't want to be invited into the little shops to buy something. It's a fun experience.
Try a Brik. It's a fried doughnut which is just delicious and cheap.
The people are generally incredibly friendly and curious but be aware of the odd gentlemen who claims to work night security at your hotel and starts to accompany you around the medina. This happened to me 3 times by 3 different men. They have the same story.

Tunis is a great place to experience Arab culture tempered by French finesse. It is easy to get around the city on foot, tram or taxi. Lots to see and do. It is also not far from other amenities and historic sites.

The medina is an interesting way of spending a couple of hours with a nice cafe above where you can look over Tunis. Taxis are the best way to travel around and there are plenty. Lots of places to eat. I think as a tourist in Tunis you just need to beware of
being ripped off by being over charged at almost every point. Other than that it’s a very interesting place to visit and actually very cheap!!
Extremely friendly and welcoming staff. Not to mention the delicious breakfast we had with a very good view of the lake. My wife was pregnant, and the chef was very helpful by preparing plates and delivering it to our table as well as bringing stuff before we even thought of it (and that's the reason I'm always booking with you guys when I come to Tunis). The last thing I'd like to mention is that the hotel is located on a superb site, next to various restaurants & cafes . Thank you, and Happy EID!!!👌🙂
Locarno is fabulous for the Medina & exploring Tunis Our host Khalid was beyond wonderful He advised us where to visit what to see where to eat and was so helpful Youdsef the taxi driver from airport and then later further on our trip was so kind helpful & caring a total delight! They made our trip exceptional! The hotel is amazing just fabulous in style, history and comfort best sleep ever on a historic palace Breakfast is generous l, loved the eggs Everyone is do fried just enjoy And thank you
The place is well situated. It is 20mins walk from the TMG metro station, 5mins walk to a Monoprix, 10mins walk to Tunis de Gare (Barcelone station), and 2-5mins from the gate of Medina. The room was clean, the bed was comfortable. The breakfast was simple and good. Wifi was decent. The most important part is the people at reception were very helpful, gave me useful tips on how to take Lougage (shared taxi) for example to reach to Dougga. They were polite and kind.
Room number 305 was facing the rear of the hotel which made it a very quiet room. The staff were exceptionally accommodating and helpful.. I enjoyed the coffee service in the room to have a cup before going to breakfast which was also excellent. Wonderful strawberries in April. There is a terrace on the top floor with cool breezes and a nice few over the area. Beds were comfortable, the bathroom was huge. Linens were changed daily. Also very close to the airport.
This hotel was easily the most luxurious of our month-long stay in Tunisia. Once we stepped through the large decorative door from the Medina, we felt we entered a magical world. From the stunning architecture, to peaceful courtyard garden with birds singing, the spectacular rooftop view of the Medina and Kasbah from the restaurant and outdoor seating, the Hammam / Spa, the endless beautiful art works throughout, to our enormous and beautifully appointed rooms.
Mr. Ahmet and the so kind lady who prepares the breakfast were AMAZING people that do not stop smiling (Literraly), it felt like a little family and it changes so much from the traditional hotel staff. Staying at El patio was an incredible experience, it's in the heart of the old touristic city, very harming. I was there with my wife, and we both appreciated the stay there. For all visitors of Tunisia, I recommend it 100%, I'm returning whenever I can again.
Hospitality was next level! A family run business that knows how to treat the customer well. My friend and I were upgraded to the suit and it was a phenomenal experience. We had to leave before breakfast was served but luckily the hotel accommodated and brought us breakfast at 4am! Got good sleep and delicious meal before a flight. Perfect location to the airport!
Friendly helpful staff, great location and breakfast was exceptional with a wide range of choices, definitely a 5 star hotel breakfast. The balcony was a huge plus as was the central location. The security was excellent. The history of the hotel and interior art displays were very interesting. We really enjoyed our stay and would return if visiting Tunis again.
It's a very nice hotel near the center of Tunis. The room was clean and quite big - there was hot water - not always available in Tunisia - and the staff is very helpful. There are some sounds from the outside - a building construction opposite and a disco downstairs - we were on Friday and it finished at 1 am - you can hear it but it is not too disturbing.
It was a very decent stay. It was clean, decorated nicely. The gentleman at the front desk was absolutely wonderful. Well-mannered and helped me with my luggage, got me situated, and attended to all my needs. The restaurant that was attached was the best! Great menu and friendly staff! This hotel gives a good reputation for tourism in Tunisia.
Perfectly clean hotel at the very center of Tunisia. Very good breakfast and service. Friendly staff specially at night, helpful. I stayed at the Carlton for more than a week, totally recommeded for foreigners and fair price for the quality and location.
Had an enormous suite on the first floor. Very comfortable bed, Tunisian style breakfast every morning and a super helpful host (Rebecca) who was easy to reach when I had any questions. The hotel is stone cold quiet at night making it very easy to sleep
Hotel is un the heart of the centre. Hotel is very nice and the hotel staff very friendly and willing to help. Especially madamoiselle Emna was very friendly and gentle. Thank you so much. We will be happy to book again when we come back to Tunis.
Wonderful hotel with amazing staff!
The quality is very high.
The hotel is very well located, close to the shopping center of Tunis" Mall of Tunis", restaurants and cafés.
The reception staff were very helpful.
The breakfast is very tasteful!

The position is perfect, easy to go everywhere in Tunis. Very clean and comfortable. The terrace of the hotel is amazing I really like it , the staff is friendly. Customer service was excellent.
Very special hotel with historic atmosphere right at the entrance of the medina. We stayed first night after arrival to Tunis and it was a great spot to explore the city.
