Medehamstede Hotel, hotel in Shanklin

The Medehamstede Hotel is set amongst spacious well-kept gardens in the coastal town of Shanklin.

Perfect white linen on bed and bed was very comfortable and clean. Good quality clean mattress too. Shower was good, always very hot water. Good breakfast, very quick, great value, hot and excellent service by lovely warm and friendly waitress, Diane, who works her socks off to please. Very much appreciated. Thank you Diane. Perfect location for me as near to St Saviours Church on the Cliff, where my parents got married. All the staff were very happy and friendly.

Channel View Hotel, hotel in Shanklin

Set in Shanklin, 300 metres from Shanklin Beach, Channel View Hotel offers accommodation with a shared lounge, free private parking, a terrace and a restaurant.

We stayed for my mum's birthday at the end of April. We had 3 rooms and there were 6 of us in total. I chose the sea view room for the birthday lady but we were quite lucky that even our second room was partial sea view and beautiful. We had two cakes with us and the staff were super accommodating in putting them in the fridge for us and then providing us with plates, cutlery and a knife so we can sing and then have cake. They were also super helpful with organising a bottle of wine for my mum and even went out their way to put a card and a banner in the room. Overall everyone was super super friendly and helpful and made the stay amazing!

The Chine is worth a visit!

The Chine is worth a visit! The ticket gives unlimited access for seven days. We took advantage of this and visited on three occasisons from top to bottom, and then in reverse! We were there mid may, and the Chine closed at 9pm, so it was too light for the illuminations to be seen at their best. But it was still a pleasant walk. Public transport is excellent from Shanklin and all the drivers we encountered were very friendly and helpful! We only had time for a brief exploration of the coastal paths, but the views are stunning!

It depends on what you like.

It depends on what you like. For me it is a typical Victorian seaside town, and the types of facilities on the seafront reflect this. Certainly it has much of what a family is looking for regarding entertainment, although some of the hotels did appear a bit run down. From a walking viewpoint it is lovely, although less mobile visitors may find some of the inclines a bit challenging!

A steep walk down to the Promenade which is clean and flat.

A steep walk down to the Promenade which is clean and flat. There is a good clean beach and amusements for children. Lift up and down to the promenade during the day . The old part of the town was worth a visit. Good place to eat with home cooked food and owned by the same family for over 30 years was The village Inn. Town centre a bit run down and typical of seaside town. Lots of pensioners on coach party holidays. Thorougly enjoyed Osborne House , weather permitting you could spend the day there. Due to the cost of the car ferry we will probably not visit the Isle again.

Shanklin and Sandown are beautiful beaches but both towns...

Shanklin and Sandown are beautiful beaches but both towns are dying. Shops empty etc. Parking expensive and a nightmare to find which took a lot of the enjoyment out of the trip. Parking charged 24 hours 7 days a week.

A delightful atmosphere in a grand old stone house with superb sloping terraced garden, beautifully landscaped. Its location in Shanklin Old village, close to the sea and The Chine could not be better. Our room overlooking the garden was a good size and very comfortable. Breakfasts were excellent, superbly cooked and the staff most helpful and welcoming. The added gesture of prosecco for birthdays was a lovely touch.

Lots of potential but in great need of renovation. Pool was out of use. Decor is old and tired. There was a hole in our floor in the room, covered with carpet! Everything is done on a shoestring ! Despite the poor accommodation, the staff are lovely and the location is close to the beach and shanklin town. It's a shame the owner does not invest in this hotel because it could draw higher prices and better reviews!

The owner and her son were extremely kind and helpful. The position of the hotel was, as expected, excellent.
