The Gran Canaria capital, Las Palmas, has everything that the Canaries stand for: year-round sun, fantastic beaches and great nightlife. However, the largest city of this volcanic island group is more than just a beach resort: its mix of traditional and modern makes it stand out from the crowd.
Colorful Colonial façades line Calle Triana, a top shopping street, while the Las Arenas shopping complex outside the city is much more contemporary in design. The El Muelle shopping center is near Parque Santa Catalina and the surrounding restaurants, bars and clubs are focal points of Las Palmas nightlife, together with the historic Vegueta district.
Vegueta is also home to Santa Ana cathedral, best viewed from the palm-lined square which houses the Canary Island Museum. Around the corner is the Casa Museo de Colón, where Columbus stayed en route to America. No doubt he sailed from huge Puerto de la Luz whose numerous vessels are guarded by a lighthouse and stone castle.
On the opposite side of the promontory is long Las Canteras beach, lined by a promenade providing great mountain views in both directions. The 5-star hotels by the beach are just some of Booking.com’s Las Palmas accommodations options, alongside cheap guesthouses and apartments, all connected by coastal road to Gran Canaria Airport.

The island will definitely appeal to alot of people from all...
The island will definitely appeal to alot of people from all walks - Interestingly the south caters for more touristic attractions and opportunities whilst the centre and north are more historic. The island is accessible via public transport from St. Telmo (bus station) - You'll need to work out the way the busses work (Blue for inter-town, Orange for inside towns) and download the GuaGua app (There's two of them!) - Google Maps helps alot in navigating whilst Apple-Maps is a little sparse on information.
Dont go the route to hire a car - Its not needed and buses are frequent and easily accommodating.
Restaurants are a pick'n'mix re success - Some are great (look for the locals seems a big deal)

Great to walk all over the city.
Great to walk all over the city. The old town and so many beautiful beaches where there are no tourists. They are all on one beach. Positive attitude from everyone I met. Nice to rent a bicycle and travel on excellent bicycle routes throughout the city. Lots of good restaurants. I was there for a month, it felt way too short.

What an island!
What an island! It has an amazing beach - Las Canteras - and amazing places to visit, eat and relax. It is best to rent a car, but you can also use the public buses, which work really well. The taxis are also affordable and reliable. People are friendly, but not overly invasive of your personal space.

Las Palmas is not a particularly pretty town/city; however...
Las Palmas is not a particularly pretty town/city; however the old town of Vegueta is only about 15 minutes on the bus and has both the historic old town with narrow streets, plus the modern shopping street with most of the highstreet shops, and plenty of restaurants and bars.
Las Palmas has many bars and restaurants, as well as the main shopping street Mesa y Lopez, with El Corte Ingles and many more highstreet shops.
There are a couple of indoor shopping centres - one near the Auditorium and one near the port. The Auditorium itself is an interesting building and worth a visit. It looked to have a good programme of concerts too.
There are lots of restaurants and bars on the Canteras promenade but there are also some good ones a block or so back. Lacan (plaza Faray) for pizzas is brilliant but you do have to book, especially at the weekend, and Toma Pan y Moja, which is a small bar on the Canteras promenade is very small and friendly and has some beautiful food and wine. The prawns and the Saharan Calamari are to die for! The bar Ginger further along the promenade serves the best mojitos and La Maravilla a on the next corner does a very good plate of mixed fried fish.

Las Palmas is the biggest city with beaches in canary island...
Las Palmas is the biggest city with beaches in canary island and I found it incredible in terms of culture and mentality. The feeling is like traveling in South America, people are easy fun and open minded. I was there for the carnival closure day and it was amazing. Definitely the best carnival I have ever been, and I have been in quite a few.

Probably the best hotel in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria. It is located in the old town, close to park and bus station with convenient shuttle transfer to the airport and south coast area. The breakfast is with good quality and served in the restaurant with magnificent ocean view. Nice and helpful personnel as they provide us with information for main island attraction and restaurants. We definitely come back again at this Sercotel Hotel Parque.
The room was large, it has a beautiful big bathroom and the bed was very comfortable! The location was perfect for us to do day trips out exploring around the island. The hostess was so nice! The breakfasts were great and the coffee…amazing! It was a nice start to our day! There was lots of information for local services. Parking is an issue in Gran Canaria but parking is available for $5.00 Euros per day on the property which is secure.
I really like staying here when visiting Las Palmas de Gran Canaria. I've stayed a few times now & there's a reason I keep returning. The location is excellent with so many bars, restaurants, shops, the beach & bus station so close by. It's clean, comfortable & good value for money. The staff are also amazing & super helpful.
The location could not have been more perfect. Close to local restaurants, groceries, taxi stand, the coast / beaches, and just a general vibe that was so easy to plug into, I felt like a local in less than a day. If you want to visit Las Palmas and live as if it was your full-time home, this apartment is a perfect choice.
Diana and her father were extremely nice
Everything was in the right order, and very clear.
They were handling the problems we had in a professional way, and very fast.
The place itself is very good for 2 adults, each one with his own room.
The location is the best in Las Palmas.
I highly recommend you to stay there.
Great place in Las Palmas, not far from the center if you dont mind some stairs ( its on top of a hill). Parking was surprisingly easy on the street outside, just make sure your mirrors are put in :). Very friendly hosts - helped us with airport transfer. Clean, tidy, descent kitchen, good shower. Comfy beds!
Great place to stay in Las Palmas! Big terrace with an amazing view on the beach. Check-in went fast and without any problems. The rooms are big with comfortable bunk beds. Shared kitchen and bathrooms were clean and well equipped. Perfect accommodation if you want to be close to the beach and city centre.
This is the second time I have stayed at this property within a month and a half. I found everything improved a bit compared to the previous time. I'm happy for this.
Ps: The next time I come to Gran Canaria I will stay at this property again. I will come to Gran Canaria often for many reasons.
The owner Marco was very friendly!! We talked a lot and he gave us many good tips on what we should see in Las Palmas and the whole Gran Canaria. He told us about the history of the building, which is simply amazing and has a special spirit. We really enjoyed our stay there, thank you very much!!!
We had a wonderful stay at Suites 1478, beautiful rooms and building and the staff were so friendly and accommodating, we returned to stay for a second time on our trip in Gran Canaria!
The breakfast was amazing too.
We highly recommend - just book!!
Welcoming staff, great value for the money, guests are nice, the location is good ( the bus station is right in front of the building). Overall, an exceptional experience and I will certainly choose Albergue for my following trip in Gran Canaria.
The accommodation was close to the city beach of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria and also supermarkets, cafes, bars were nearby. The staff was quite nice and we could leave the hotel earlier getting our money back without any explanations needed.
The ocean views and fantastic breakfast were our favorite things about this stylish hotel. The location is also a great launching point for lounging on the beach or exploring the local area.
