Sports, Shopping and Stately Homes
Northampton is one of England’s largest towns and has appeared in writing since the 10th century. The large medieval market square has an array of stalls 5 days a week, and nearby are the Market Walk and Grosvenor shopping centres. A larger retail and entertainment site is out of the town centre near Sixfields Stadium, home of Northampton Town FC. The Northampton Saints rugby union team play nearby, and Silverstone is south-west of the M1.
To the east is Billing Aquadrome, a marina complex with go karting, minigolf and a miniature railway. A smaller marina is along the River Nene in Becket’s Park, overlooked by 78 Derngate, a Grade II-listed house redesigned by Charles Rennie Mackintosh.
Other notable buildings are the Guildhall and colonnaded All Saints Church. The Church of the Holy Sepulchre dates to 1100 and is one of England’s largest round churches.
On the outskirts of town, by one of several golf courses, is Delapre Abbey, and to the north are other historic mansions of Coton Manor, Cottesbrooke Hall and the most famous of them all - Althorp House, the final resting place of Princess Diana.
The Northampton accommodation on Booking.com includes hotels with swimming pools, alongside apartment and guest house options near the train station and university.

The surrounding areas were nice and I was at a conference at Delepre Abbey which is well worth a visit, the grounds are lovely and you can take your children for a run around or your dogs. Picnics in the summer would be lovely.

I formerly lived in Northampton and was staying over night to meet with family. As a town it has changed significantly from my child hood and whilst attractions in the town could be considered limited, there are interesting places to see and it acts a good based to visit other attractions in the surrounding area.

We used to live in Northampton some years back and the changes were a shock to the system. The volume of road works was staggering. More cones and detour’s then the M6 in the 80’s. The town center covered in chewing gum pats everywhere. Most of the big stores had closed down and large shop area closed off.

There are loads of individual shops in Northampton, and not many large chain shops. It is quite a large city centre. There is a large central church - All Saints Church, which is open during the day, and serves refreshments, with lots of outdoor seating. Saint Peters church is another, older building with many interesting features. There is a large bus station very close to the centre of town, and the train station a short walk away. There are plenty of places to eat and drink, with several interesting pubs to choose from.

What I didn't like in Northampton:
What I didn't like in Northampton:
Northampton is a town from the past. Poor quality roads.
I was really disappointed in parking meters - I could not pay for parking by card as all the parking meters required coins. In 2023 that is a big disappointment as I don't use wallets since 2004 and don't have any space for coins.
I could find a parking lot where I could pay online. The website was ancient, like being built 15 years ago.
I enjoyed my 3 day stay in the hotel. The week we stayed there was some sort of racing event on which meant the price had went up, which I no is unfortunate for me. I would defo stay again but I would make sure the price was a lot less before booking it. Staff were all very friendly and helpful with any questions I had. The location of the hotel in brilliant, right in the town centre. Thank you for a lovely stay.
The location of the apartment was great, only a 5 minute walk from Northampton Town Centre. The apartment overall was also very comfortable and modern, and a great size for 2 people. The beds were very comfortable and the kitchen was well equipped. The windows were also a bonus as you could either tilt them or open them fully. The Smart TV was also another little bonus.
The apartment was clean, warm and comfortable. Security access to the apartment itself was excellent and the covered, secure car park was a welcome bonus. Several good take aways located within a few minutes walk. Northampton station and the town centre are about 10 minutes walk, so very convenient for travel, food and entertainment.
Feel welcome and great Breakfast is included in Hotel fees. And, very delicious, too.
Many thanks to Michael & wife, Bro Robert

The room was very clean and comfortable with really good sound proofing between rooms. All staff I encountered were professional and friendly. Location is difficult without a car of your own but the connections from the hotel to the Northampton city centre is good and only about 6-8 pounds in a cab if you don't want a bus.
The apartment was clean and spacious.
Hosts were very accommodating and very easy to contact.
Wasn't directly in town which was nice as was quiet but was only a 5-10 min walk to the town centre which was nice :) however there are amenities close by if needed.
WiFi was really good!
Overall we really enjoyed our stay :)
The staff at Reception were exceptional and really helpful. I felt the price was good and I would thus stay here again. I will have to visit Northampton in the coming months and would use this hotel because of the combination of helpful staff, comfortable room and price.
Location was perfect, walking distance from the town centre. The property was immaculate any and had plenty of space for 4 people. Two bathrooms along with a separate toilet made getting ready a lot easier. The hosts were very responsive with our enquiries.
The hotel is sited near the bus station, very central for the town and all the museums.
Very pleasant staff, nice clean spacious room, very comfy bed and excellent choice at breakfast. Thoroughly enjoyed our stay even though it was only for 1 night
The windows opened. Breakfast was good. Easy walk into town centre and the Derngate.
Walk in shower. Tea and coffee facilities. Hairdryer. Waterfront bar good space really cheap prices.
Reception staff helpful. Room a good size.
Everyone was very kind, very family like feel to the place. It was clearly a popular destination and that's evident from the amount of people who were lined up to go to the restaurant. Breakfast food was delicious!
Generally I liked the hotel with comfortable bed.
Friendly and helpful staff.
Convenient car park.
Very good breakfast with good quality and importantly hot full English.
Location was good for access to Northampton. Beautiful setting. Good size room. Nice decor in public areas. Leisure facilities available but I didn't get to use them.
Good Breakfast, nice clean modern decor throughout the hotel. Great modern safe location. Free easy parking. Good shower. Biscuits and bottled water in the room.
Clean, comfortable and functional. Hotel was good value and the room to a good standard. Staff were very welcoming and gave me a lovely quiet room as requested.
