Departure point for Isle of Wight ferries and grand cruise liners including the Queen Mary 2, Southampton is understandably centred around its port. But even if you’re passing through, the city has more than enough to make you want to stay awhile. The Hythe Ferry from the port passes Netley, site of a ruined abbey, and ends at Hythe Pier, home to the world’s oldest pier train.
There is much older history in the city centre where the 15th-century city walls are amongst the most complete in England. Also remaining is the medieval Bargate gatehouse.
Just behind is the Bargate Shopping Centre, while high street stores in the city centre and West Quay are other Southampton shopping choices. As for entertainment, the city is well served by theatres, and Oxford Street has the best bars and restaurants. All are easily reached from the apartments, B&Bs and hotels in Southampton available on Booking.com.
There is also a surprising amount of green space in the city and its central parks are Grade II-listed. Slightly further out is Southampton Common, whose Urban Wildlife Centre is worth a visit.
If you’re flying out of Southampton Airport, don’t leave without having visited the Maritime Museum or Archaeology Museum, both detailing the history of this long-established city.
Very close to cruise terminals. Large shops like Matalan ( never seen one so large with everything you'd need). Mamas & papas. Close to many eateries like TGI Fridays/5 guys/las iguanas/ Brazilian & mexican.

We went to Southampton to go to the Mayflower theatre which is good value compared to London theatres. It has lots of shows and good facilities. We will go back. We also had a good dinner at Papillon which is opposite the theatre. We stayed at the Ibis which is good value and well located for the Mayflower.

If visiting Southampton stay closer to city centre.
If visiting Southampton stay closer to city centre. This hotel was practically surrounded by a building site. Drink were extortionate, limited food available not as described on website. Saving grace lovely reasonable pub/restaurant within a few minutes walk.

We stayed in 003.
We stayed in 003. Very spacious but this is what facilities I should have had.
The spacious family room features a tea and coffee maker and a seating area, as well as a private bathroom boasting a bath. The well-equipped kitchen has a refrigerator, kitchenware, a microwave and a toaster. This family room features a sofa, heating and a flat-screen TV. The unit has 2 beds.
All we got was the tea & coffee making facilities. Table in there but nothing else.
Rooms spacious but found lounge & beds very uncomfortable. Thankfully only stayed the one night.
Quiet & grounds lovely.

The town centre has loads of shops and a large indoor shopping centre. There are several parks and lots of green space available. There was a huge choice of cafes, restaurants and pubs for all price brackets. We went to the 1865 club which holds lots of musical events. We were a bit concerned doing the 30 minute walk through the parks when the event finnished, however we saw at least 3 separate groups of police walking around the town and parks so felt very safe.

We had a really good stay with several nice meals, Found the people very pleasant and helpful. Really good shopping centres. Town was not too big and by the sea with several parks. There was something for all ages. Had all the major entertainments like cinema and ten pin bowling. Lovely museum and art gallery - well worth a visit.
We arrived a little before the 3pm check-in time but our room was available straight away. I had requested a quiet room if possible because my child is on the autistic spectrum and we were given a room in a very quiet part of the hotel. The staff were friendly and helpful and the room was exceptionally clean and comfortable. The hotel is in a convenient location for the city centre on the edge of the old town. I would definitely recommend this hotel to other travellers and would stay there if I was visiting Southampton again.
This is my go to hotel when I go to Southampton. I witness some people expecting a service beyond the price they pay but the staff always pull out the stops to appease them within the capabilities and products available. For me the location is perfect, breakfast is included and provides both hot and continental options. The room has basic plus facilities and is always clean. If you have any concerns or issues, or just need basic help the happy, helpful staff will do there all to help.
Staff were wonderful. Rooms had just been refurbished/upgraded and were fresh and clean. The property has its own character, more like a BnB, less of a hotel feel. Also the hotel is in a pretty location in Southampton, close to some parks that are suitable for walking. We noticed many dogs being walked in the area while we were there. Good food for breakfasts and dinners. The hotel restaurant has a regular clientele from the neighborhood, which gives it a home-y feel.
The hotel is in a very good position for visiting the theatre in Southampton, whilst being in a very quiet and secluded place. The room was a good size, with a bath rather than just a shower. The breakfast offering, again went above and beyond, with an exceptional choice, and very good quality. The gentleman overseeing the breakfast room was delightful. At the price, this hotel would be very hard to beat.
Thought the location of the hotel was very convenient near to the port and near to the old historical town area of Southampton. Our room was very comfortable and spacious. We had breakfast in the hotel which wasn't included in the price, which I thought was unfair. The quality of the food though was very good.
The reception staff were very friendly.
The room was very clean and well put together, and we appreciated the complementary drinks. The location of the hotel, while an approximately 25 minute walk from the train station, was close to the best parts of Southampton. Breakfast was top notch. We stayed in around 8 hotels in this England trip, and this one had one of the best menus for breakfast.
Great location. I stayed here for a cruise departure the next morning. Hotel is a very quick walk from the train station - and the cruise terminal was a cheap taxi journey.
Room was a decent size. Convenient refrigerator in room. Separate bathroom and toilet room will be a benefit for some.
Staff were friendly when I arrived.
Perfect place to stay in Southampton. Plenty of space, everything you need, clean and tidy, and very accomodating and helpful staff who went above and beyond! The location is right in the middle of town so you can walk wherever you need to go without it being noisy. Would definitely stay again.
The food - breakfasts were always excellent and I had an absolutely incredible makhani curry! The bed was really comfortable, and the staff were all excellent. Fantastic value for money. Great location for West Quay, cruise ships or just a general visit to Southampton.
Amazing hotel with a great concept. Large room with excellent facilities. Staff were very friendly and helpful.
Great location for the port and cruise ship holidays, walking distance to all terminals.
Set in the old town of Southampton, with lots of great restaurants.
It was convenient to both the bus station and not too far for the cruise port. The apt was just off a nice pedestrian area of stores and an ATM was steps away. I likes that there was a fan, as it was historically hot in England at the time.
Very close to the cruise terminal and the bus station which was really convenient. Staff was friendly and efficient. A lower budget hotel almost like a hostel but comfortable. Close to town and shopping.
Apart from the location, I am sorry to say this was awful. So the location is very close to the main town centre of Southampton and also to the cruise terminals which was our reason for booking the hotel.
Excellent breakfast wide selection available.
Location was perfect for our visit to Southampton.
ALL the hotel staff we meet were very polite, warm & welcoming and helpful - really outstanding!
Good location for visiting Southampton within walking distance of town center. Staff friendly upon check in and through hotel. Room size was OK, iron/board and hairdryer included which was handy.
