The hotel is centrally located very nice and clean and the staff is wonderful. Although the room is very dark with very few outlets, and the breakfast was sparse for the price.

Cavallaro Hotel is perfect. First: Silvana is exceptional; she drove all the way to Delft to bring us the cash we’d left in the room safe. We were totally blown away!
The suite was very elegantly decorated with beautiful accessories, furniture and finishing touches. The room, which opens onto a private terrace, felt like a calm oasis with full length block-out drapes, beautiful wood floors, lovely wallpaper and lighting. The elegant black and gold bathroom, with a shower and tub, has excellent fixtures, great lighting and a view of the terrace. We arrived to a vase of pink roses and a welcome note.
The train station, Grote Markt etc are easy walking distance as are very good restaurants.

We loved this small historic hotel, which combined preserved architectural details with modern furnishings. The location, next to the commanding Grote Kirk and inside the historic district, was perfect for strolling along the narrow streets and canals. Most cars are not permitted in this central area, but cabs are allowed to pick up and deliver guests so managing luggage was a breeze. The rooms, with delightful views, have been cleverly modernized, and the beds are wonderfully comfortable. Breakfast was delicious, plentiful, and well presented in the Bistro. The ML Restaurant was exquisite.
The staff was welcoming, efficient, and accommodating. They made every part of our trip easy and pleasant.

Location to transportation and sites. Customer service was excellent. I was fortunate to have a large/deep bathtub to enjoy, which was a plus. The area was quiet and there were many nearby restaurants to select from.

Haarlem is a pretty town, and a lively destination.
Haarlem is a pretty town, and a lively destination. I mainly walked around, looking at the canals and houses. One of my photos shows one of the older canalside housing (green door). The station is a lovely Art Nouveau building with tiled pictures, the only one in the Netherlands. Transport is easy, and Haarlem is convenient for Amsterdam, Leiden, etc, and for visiting the bulb fields at Keukenhof in spring.

Haarlem is beautiful in it's own right with lots of historic buildings, and charming streets which have been greened with tree, shrub and flower planting. There is the Frans Hals museum to visit, and much more. Take a walking tour of "Monumental Haarlem"
Haarlem is also very conveniently situated for Amsterdam and surrounding areas. We used public transport all the time. Just swipe on and off the bus or train, and everything is taken care of. Really simple, and it all works smoothly.
We also found some really good restaurants for our evening meals.

Haarlem is a wonderful city to stay in as it has the canals, lots of history, good shopping and plentiful restaurants.
The Grotemarkt has the oldest organ in Europe which Mozart played on and Corrie Ten Boom’s house(who hid the Jews in WW2) is better than Anne Franks! The very first museum in the Netherlands is also here-Teylers. The Saturday market is wonderful.
It is only 15 minutes by train back into Amsterdam and you have a better feel of regular Dutch folks in this beautiful town.

First, I really liked Amsterdam.
First, I really liked Amsterdam. But it was really really crowded, even the first week of April. Then, when I got to Haarlem, I realized it was similar to Amsterdam, with all the old world Europe charm, old buildings, & canals, but not the hordes of crazy tourists. I ended up liking Haarlem better than Amsterdam! Even better than Rotterdam, and maybe the Haag (except I only spent a few hours there). Easy to walk everywhere, and I rented a bicycle and rode all the way to the beach and back on easy, nice separated bike paths. Also, the bike riders are not as aggressive as in Amsterdam. So as an American tourist, in my 50s, I felt perfectly comfortable riding my bike all over. Of course, you still need to be hyper aware of oncoming cyclists and cars… also, they had a secure bike garage near the main central Plaza, where you could lock your bike for free, with a guard watching over it. If you left it overnight, you had to pay something. So I was able to lock my eBay inside there while visiting main attractions in the plaza, like the church with the pipe organ.
I will definitely choose this as a base next time, instead of Amsterdam. I considered staying in Leiden too, but never got a chance to go there.

Haarlem is a beautiful safe city with plenty of lovely restaurants and bars. Walking is the best way to get around the city . I would recommend hiring bikes and cycling out to Zaandvort which is completely along a cycle path to a stunning beach. There are plenty of museums and the windmill is worth a visit . There is also a food market in the square on Saturday morning
The staff was accommodating and so very friendly! They let us store our baggage and delivered it to our room when it was ready while we were out. There is an elevator! Location was wonderful. Would absolutely stay again. Haarlem is an exceptionally friendly place with lots to see and do. Stay here if you want to be near Amsterdam, a short train ride away, but away from the crowds and hotel prices of Amsterdam.
The Riverside Suite is spacious with a great view over a canal with a windmill. Easy walk to town with lots of places to explore, eat, drink and shop. The train station is close by for a quick 15 minute ride into Amsterdam. Monique is very friendly & an excellent host with lots of thoughtful touches and was flexible with our travel arrangements.
Haarlem is a beautiful town and we thoroughly enjoyed our stay!
It's a very beautiful place. Decorated with love. The matresses are very comfy and it's clean everywhere. The big dorm were big enough. It's a lovley place to hang out you easily get to talk to people. The location is great in terms of silence and it's close by the city centre of Haarlem. It's a 20 min walk to the train station to Amsterdam.
Frenchie is basically a lovely restaurant with some really nice rooms above. It's right in the middle of Haarlem which is a beautiful area on the edge of Amsterdam. The room was stunning, old beams, a big bed and great shower. I chose to done in the restaurant and the food was expensive but stunning quality.
Really querky hotel with gorgeous furnishings. In an excellent location, quiet but not far from many bars, restaurants, cafes and Grote Market.
Breakfast was delicious and the staff extremely helpful.
Will definitely stay again if in Haarlem which is a welcome relief from the madness of Amsterdam 😅
This location was perfect. This was a pre-cruise stay for us, and the first time to Amsterdam. The price was much less than being in the city and it was close to several restaurants and bars to relax after a busy day touring Amsterdam. The train station was within walking distance.
Haarlem is a great city to visit. The apartment is close enough to the station if you are comfortable walking, but we wasted too much time daytripping to Amsterdam from here - I recommend using this place to visit Haarlem, not Amsterdam.
I had a lot of Hotel and Guest-Houses in the Netherlands and i can honestly say this B&B is really good. Authentic, Central, self check in, lovely breakfast. Nothing to complain about. There is also a Terrace in a nice backyard :)
The location was excellent and the facilities were all as listed. Good value for money and the staff were very friendly and helpful. Highly recommend this hotel for visitors to Haarlem and Amsterdam. Will be back again.
We had a wonderful night at the Hotel Lion D'Or. We all agreed we would have liked another night in Haarlem, an idyllic town outside of Amsterdam. It was beautifully decorated and the staff was so kind and joyful.
basic but clean and efficient - good value, good continental breakfast and good evening bar and food - second visit - great place to be based for visits to Haarlem and Amsterdam using a bike to get around..
Very good central location. Much cheaper than staying in Amsterdam which is an easy trip from here on the train. The station is 10 minutes walk away.
Lots of restaurants and cafes on the hotel doorstep.
I loved the proximity to the train station, the city center and the easy walk to everything. Haarlem is the perfect place to visit all of the Netherlands.
The location is very good for both directions - Amsterdam and Haarlem. Very nice and quiet place in spite being few meters from bus station and trains.
