Located in the historical town of Magome, Tajimaya features Japanese-style accommodations in a 110-year old building. Each room features a flat-screen TV, and guests can relax in the public bath. Amazing property, and super cute. The food is absolutely spectacular. Tasty, well displayed and very large portions. Having the private usage of the bath was also great, especially after hiking there from Tsumago. It is honestly like living in a Japanese fairytale or myth. Our family truly loved this place, and the entire experience was the highlight of the trip. Oh, we also got a room with a private toilet, I think the only one in the property, so that was a win! If you see this place as available, book it. Staff are kind, helpful, and super nice. And there was a beautiful welcome song at dinner.

Room was very comfortable. Futons and sheets extremely comfortable. Host was very accommodating and even prepared a small breakfast for us very early before our hike. Best of all was his effort to get a dinner reservation for us at an exceptional restaurant in walking distance. Fantastic meal and experience in a small village that closes up early.

Just 40 metres from restored Edo-era post town Magome-Juku, Chaya Hotel has simple traditional rooms with futon bedding and a tatami-mat floor. so helpful on booking messaging app before my parents arrived, wonderful staff and the most beautiful dinner !
