Located somewhere halfway up the Ikaho stone steps. There's a massive sign on the building's roof with the ryokan's name on it so you can easily spot it from far away. If you've got large suitcases it may be better to book a taxi so you don't have to drag them up the steps or the parallel steep roads. Upon arrival we were given complimentary green tea and manju 🙂. They have English speaking staff who can explain the layout of the hotel and onsen facilities available. At first the whole ryokan layout might be a bit confusing but it's actually quite easy to navigate. The breakfast buffet is pretty good - you get a mix of standard western-style food and traditional Japanese food including some local Gunma specialties. There are many options for onsen available - indoor, open-air, private etc and they're all pretty well maintained. You also get amenities like yukata, socks and slippers (though I do wish they had more sizes available for socks). There are vending machines throughout the ryokan, some with alcohol, some with ice cream.

Dispondo de uma espaçosa banheira de água termal coberta e uma na cobertura ao ar livre, bem como salas de karaokê, tênis de mesa e o Mimatsukan oferece relaxamento e entretenimento no centro da área... What did I like about Mimatsukan? Honestly I loved everything! To start with, it had a homely and traditional atmosphere that was really special. Even though the staff didn't speak much English, they were incredibly friendly and did their best to make our stay enjoyable. It really felt like we were getting an authentic experience of Japanese culture, and it was one of the biggest highlight of our month long trip. The open-air onsen was absolutely beautiful and serene, and it was a great way to relax and unwind after a long day of exploring the area. I also enjoyed the sweet, cozy feel of the rooms, which added to the overall homely feel of the ryokan. The breakfast was absolutely phenomenal! I couldn't get enough of the delicious food, and it really left a lasting impression on my taste buds. Another great thing about staying at this ryokan was knowing that I was helping the local economy. By staying in an area that has been affected by the lack of tourism in Japan due to COVID-19, I felt good to supporting local businesses. If you're looking for a great place to eat nearby, I highly recommend checking out the restaurant called きっちん 志家, which is just around the corner. The food was amazing, and it was a great addition to my overall experience in Ikaho Onsen. Overall, I loved my stay at this ryokan and would highly recommend it to anyone looking for an authentic and memorable experience. From the homely and traditional atmosphere to the beautiful open-air onsen and phenomenal breakfast, it had everything I was looking for and more.
