Staying at the Nubian guesthouse on Elephantine Island in Aswan, Egypt, was an unforgettable experience that I cannot recommend highly enough. Peaceful and quiet. The rooms have all the basic necessities and is very clean. The staffs were very nice and the food was great! Kafana helped us arrange a private transport to Abu Simbel at a reasonable price, gave complimentary rides to their motor boat and even checked in on us to make sure we made it safely to our destination. Great hospitality at great value!

Nicely decorated and cosy place hidden in one of the island's back alleys. Its main selling points are desktop terrace with great views (and yummy breakfasts), proximity to the ferry, surrounding area with superb eateries (check King Jamaica restaurant!) and ancient monuments. Plus, or above all I should say, the owner (Abouda) who will organize everything you need to explore the whole region in the most comfortable and efficient way. He is a wonderful person, top-level expert and excellent source of information, so you will be able to finally chill out and let the things happen (a rare treat in Egypt). Elephantine Island itself, although still underdeveloped, is a good vibe laid back place and a future traveller's hotspot, while the area up and down the Nile is full of some of THE BEST ancient monuments and most haunting natural scenery (Lake Nubia) of the entire country, so don't waste your time, ready your backpack, and head there before it gets trampled by the crowds. And don't worry about getting around, Abouda will show you the way.
