Read more– opens a dialog boxEach review score is between 1–10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We're currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate "subscores" in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money, and free Wifi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an accommodation that you booked through our platform if you stayed there, or if you got to the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialize in detecting fake reviews submitted to our platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team so that our fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we'd publish every review we get, positive and negative. However, we won’t display any reviews that include or refer to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out. We may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old, or if the accommodation has a change of ownership.
An accommodation can reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (e.g. language, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). You can sort and/or filter them by time of year, review score, and more.
Sometimes we show external review scores from other well-known travel websites, but make it clear when we do this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly, without limiting expression or strong opinions. They're also applicable regardless of the comment's tone.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, or the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and other similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties, and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options might be available (by type of traveler, by score, etc...).

United States of AmericaRooms were a bit tight. We were in a double queen room. Our coffee maker was a bit fussy. The lights outside were too bright for me. I like it dark in my room. I never saw a staff person. We really didn't need one.
I thought the location for me was great. On the main road but far enough away from the hustle and bustle. Very walkable if you are in decent shape. Parking on the street is available for free. Very quiet place to stay. Guests were all friendly. The seating area out front was quite large for such a quaint motel.

United KingdomRoom too small for two queen size beds. Disliked that we had no personal contact with management.
Location is good as it was near to ferry and beds were comfortable. Room was very clean. Car parking is available.

United States of AmericaThe room smelled extremely strong, smell of cleaning supplies, and it wouldn’t go away. The carpet was filthy It seems like it needs to be replaced. There was no heater. Just an electric small heater. I would’ve preferred to have someone on property such as a manager at least some of the time I didn’t see anybody but cleaning staff.
I like the patios, the extra towels that you could access that had a coffee maker, of refrigerator and a microwave. Bed was comfortable. It’s close to great restaurants and the ferry.

United States of AmericaNothing.
Rooms are small but comfortable and clean. Great area outside to eat and enjoy a drink. Management quickly responded to a problem in our room and it was quickly resolved. We stay here often and will continue to do so.

United States of AmericaThere is some damage in the room. A previous guest may have had a dog. The blind above the left bed has chew marks on it. Also, the light above the right bed is not properly secured. It looks like it could fall off the wall.
We love the quaintness of the property and location!! Close to the beach and shopping!

United KingdomThe lack of the owner or manager at the hotel. Only staff I spoke to were the cleaners. As a result a minor problem lasted 48 hours rather than the minutes it would have lasted had there been someone of authority on the property

United States of AmericaBecause our room was at the end of the motel closest to Orange Avenue, there was a lot of traffic noise, but that couldn't really be helped. As long as the window was closed, it wasn't too bad.
Charming exterior with comfortable outside seating areas; cute retro feel; room was clean and comfortable, and although it was somewhat cramped, they made the most of the available space. Our room (#1) was on the end, so it had windows on two walls, which was nice. Decent value for the area. A 10-minute walk to the ferry landing. We had a car but were always able to get one of the motel's parking spaces (there are two in front of the motel on Orange Avenue and three [plus one handicapped] behind the motel off the alley between 3rd and 4th Streets).

United States of AmericaThe rooms were showing signs of age. Some sprucing up could be helpful. The check in process was a bit odd as I could not get hold of a person to check me in. After about 25 minutes I received a text on how to check in and was given a room upgrade due to the mix up so it was all ok in the end.
The hotel was charming. The room was small but adequate with a seating area and a bed. The grounds were welcoming with a small courtyard and seating area. Within half a block to the bus stop and 3 blocks to the beach. I appreciated the cold water dispenser on the deck area.

United States of AmericaNot complaints. The door hit the bed, it was a bit crowded. We were FINE, but I cannot image 4 ADULTS in this room. Maybe leave a few wine glasses? And LOL, toooo many mirrors in the bathroom (maybe some privacy film on small shower / sink side?)
Appreciated the personal texts and excellent communication for our late arrival after a 10 hour drive! It was cute, comfy, clean and well stocked, the porch and patio were pleasant, LOVED the pink flamingos! We WALKED everywhere we needed to go.

United States of AmericaVery much air freshener/fabreeze or something like that was overwhelming and the windows don't have screens so we couldn't air the place out without getting lots of mosquitos.
This place is very darling. It's well located for walking to either the ferry or the shopping/dining district. We loved sitting on the patio and playing a board game. Beds are firm, everything is very clean and cute, and it was low key and quiet in our room.

United States of AmericaTurning on the bathroom light also turns on the (exhaust) vent. It's a little much if you don't want that additional noise everytime you go in the bathroom. That's about it if I must say. The stay at El Rancho is one that I would do again.
We were able to park the car and walk to both sides of the island (bay side and Ferry Landing; and ocean side and Hotel Del Coronado). We walked to the ferry and went over to downtown San Diego and walked to enough attractions to fill a day and evening, then back to the ferry. On return, the patio seating area out on Orange Ave is awesome. The room had an island hut vibe to it. Convenient check-in and check-out. Groceries within walking distance allowed us to pit the lottle refrigerator to use. Good stay!

United States of AmericaUnfortunately the room smelled of Pine Sol. It was overwhelming. I opened the windows which had no screens and ran the fan the whole time I was there.
The location was great! It was a quick walk down to Starbucks every morning. Parking was convenient. The exterior is cute. Inside it’s interesting how they cut the beds frame so the door could open and close.
