Sekenani (7.2 miles from Keekorok Airport)
With garden views, Drunken Elephant Mara is set in Sekenani and has a restaurant, a kids' club, bar, garden, year-round outdoor pool and terrace. Free WiFi is featured. Wow, what an amazing experience! Kenya is a remarkable place and the Drunken Elephant on the edge of the Maasai Mara was the perfect place to stage an African adventure. The Drunken Elephant is a wonderful camp in the middle of thick trees where you’ll see monkeys and baboons every day. It’s called a tent camp, but the “tents” are more like hotel rooms with canvas walls, full tiled bathrooms, flush toilets, hot water, and fresh drinking water supplied daily. The rooms have attractive stone floors, large comfortable beds, and electrical outlets near the beds, with chairs, tables and places for your clothes and luggage. The canvas walls have screened windows which can be covered with flaps for privacy and opened to view the wildlife and enjoy the cool breeze. Because the camp is located right next to the great Maasai Mara game reserve, wild animals can and will wander right into camp, including hyenas, leopards, lions and elephants. Because of this there is a full-time security guard who walks the grounds to keep guests safe. And each room is surrounded by strong wire fencing to discourage unwanted “visitors”. The owners of the camp are amazing. Faheem, his wife Shivangi and his sister Jazeera treated us like family. They really know how to make you feel comfortable and welcome. They can literally supply you with everything you need or want. They provided us with transportation from the airport in Nairobi to the camp and had our driver stop in Narok for supplies per our request. At the camp they can provide you with delicious meals every day, and will even pack up meals for you when you go out on an excursion. They have their own Land Cruisers and employ a professional Maasai tour guide, Ngaruya, who is amazing. He was born and raised in the area and seems to know everything about the African animals. His stories are amazing and his passion for the animals, and finding them for his clients is remarkable. We took three, full day excursions...
When you book by booking.com, the price you see dsnt include taxes and daily fee entrance to the park( 70 usd per day for foreigner). Also take in consideration that it is a very poor wi fi connection. Except those 2 remarks, this place is excellent, the staff very kindly, the environment so beautiful
The game drives with Francis were amazing. He could spot game from anywhere. Not a big talker but a 100% guy. He took us out to the airstrip for our departure but wouldn’t leave until we were safely handed over to the Kenya express crew. I think Keekorok charge an excessive fee for transfers just up the road. Food is pretty good. We were told it comes by truck from Nairobi once a week on Thursday overnight so it doesn’t spoil. They do a good job. Visit to the Maasai village was an eye opener. But be warned these guys could teach the Wall Street mob a thing or Two. Would we return ? Yes!
Staff and location are exceptional, but you get what you pay for. Rooms need an overhaul and definitely a lick of paint. Food was OK, buffet style, but dining is exceptionally busy and waiting/moving can be a bit of a pain
Beautiful ensemble. Central location in Maasai Mara. About 1 hour to Mara River. The hotel needs a general renovation and is too expensive for what it is offering. Poor breakfast and coffee and only fair dinner.
Keekorok is in fabulous location. Especially for Game Drive just outside of camp you Will see many animals. Exactly outside of your room you can walk around and enjoy with Garden and swimming pool and walking toward the Hippo pool takes 5 minutes. Staff were excellent. Sometimes during the day the power went out. And another things which I have to mention the quality of food can be much better. If you pay for full board Drinks not included even water.
